Sunday Sermon Reading:

John 21:15-25

New International Version

Jesus Reinstates Peter

15 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?”

“Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”

16 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”

17 The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Feed my sheep. 18 Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” 19 Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, “Follow me!”

20 Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved was following them. (This was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and had said, “Lord, who is going to betray you?”) 21 When Peter saw him, he asked, “Lord, what about him?”

22 Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.” 23 Because of this, the rumor spread among the believers that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say that he would not die; he only said, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?”

24 This is the disciple who testifies to these things and who wrote them down. We know that his testimony is true.

25 Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.

Archbishop’ COVID Update.

Dear brothers and sisters

Easing restrictions

From midnight Friday night, anyone can attend church services, activities, and premises regardless of vaccine status. Food and drink are also available to anyone and those serving are not required to wear masks. QR code check in no longer applies for any activity in church. Unvaccinated people can now work in and on church premises.

In practice, churches and church activities are free of restrictions though we continue to echo the health advice to maintain good hygiene and care, use sanitiser, and not to attend if you have any symptoms.

We hope this, the 145th diocesan covid update, may be the last.

The website for the diocesan COVID pages will be discontinued soon. Please email (not text message) Bishop Paul directly: bishoppaulbarker@melbourneanglican.org.au with any remaining questions.

Grace and peace in Christ Jesus

Archbishop Philip Freier

Call for fasting and prayer on Friday, 6 May 2022

Bible refers to children as “arrows in the hand of a warrior” – Psalm 127:4. “We raise them up to shoot them out into the culture, bearing the image of Christ to the world. Sounds again, then, like a place that would qualify as a major area of concern for an enemy who doesn’t want any vestige of Christians valour and virtue running loose out there where…… for instance they might take bold stands of faith and influence around their college friends. Might pastor a church or run a business or become involved in missions and ministry opportunities that honour Christ and actively serve hundreds of people. Or they might marry and raise up a whole other generation of little Christ followers, keeping your family burning red hot on enemy radar long beyond your lifetime, spinning up a legacy of faith that spirals forward undaunted into the future”. Fervent (2015), Priscilla Shirer pg 81

The world is constantly changing. As a result, our children are facing many challenges. Together with parents, the church plays an important role in shaping and equipping our children on God’s word. Therefore, it is crucial that CCD employs a Children and Youth Worker to provide support and build a strong Biblical foundation for our children.

I would like to invite everyone at CCD to join me and Jessica to fast on Friday, 6 May 2022 for God’s provision and guidance as we search for a Children and Youth Worker. You may fast and pray at home and pray at any time during the day. You can fast until noon or until evening. Please drink plenty of water when you fast. If you are unable to fast for any reasons except “I love food and I cannot live without food” you are welcome to pray.

Verses on fasting

Acts 13:2

2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”

Acts 14:23

23 Paul and Barnabas appointed elders for them in each church and, with prayer and fasting, committed them to the Lord, in whom they had put their trust.
